CBS All Access - The Twilight Zone Reboot

59 years after the premiere of the original series, THE TWILIGHT ZONE returns as a new original series on CBS All Access. The 2019 reboot of the legendary series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films. Jordan Peele will host and narrate the new iteration, a role made famous by creator, Rod Serling. The original series used socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times. It is an incredible opportunity to introduce today’s audiences to a modern reimagining of this iconic series.

The creative brief asked for logo designs, animation ideas, and mood boards to help jump start the brainstorming process for the Internal team.

How do you pay homage to the classic feeling of this legendary show, and still manage to bring something fresh and new? A process took into exploring 4 key avenues.

1. Nostalgia 
The Twilight Zone is a memorable and deeply loved series. The music alone floods back memories, warm fuzzies, and sometimes, nightmares. We felt we’d be remiss to not consider a total “throw back” approach, especially considering the reboot series would be recreating so many iconic tales.

2. Inverse it
Sometimes the antithesis of something so ingrained in memory can be more eye-grabbing than the classics. That’s why we played with taking the original look and literally inverting color for a fresh, new audience and giving the long-time fans a double-take opportunity.

3. New interpretations
A reboot is, after all, an update for the times. How do we stay true to the original themes, but recreate it for a new generation.

4. Out There
We never miss an opportunity to play and explore. That human desire is the heart of The Twilight Zone writing! So we took the opportunity to explore “the Zone” and what it could look like with a totally out-there lens.
